About ten years ago, I had the misfortune to break my left femur. I have been an avid skateboarder, snowboarder and surfer for most of my life but this skate accident was life changing. I luckily had a great surgeon that put me back together again. The bad news prior to the surgery was that I may lose some length in my leg as the healing process progressed. After 8 days in the hospital, I finally was sent home and onto physical therapy. To come back from an injury this catastrophic took tenacious rehabilitation, hard work and even more pain than the initial injury. Along with a great surgeon, I had a great physical therapy team, so props go out from this photographer to all hardworking physical therapists and all the time and studying that goes into their craft. Segway into April and Nick's wedding, these two are physical therapists in Hawaii. They met while attending school and are now enjoying their practice on Oahu. April, being from the area wanted to have her beautiful September wedding in San Diego and Nick's family had no qualms about coming down from Washington State to enjoy some of our beautiful Southern California sunshine. Their wedding day was a tour of the county, preparation photos started early at the Hard Rock Hotel in Downtown San Diego. I suggested the spot as I really love the Hard Rock's lobby for great photography, it allows for really diverse backdrops. We started with some photos with the guys around the hotel and under the Gaslamp District sign.
After that, we popped upstairs to photograph the girls getting ready. They had a great suite and the gals were having a blast getting all dolled up for the beautiful wedding day ahead.
After a few mimosas and a few photos we went down to the lobby for some more photos in the Hard Rock's modern and well pointed lobby.
The party bus arrived to take us to the gorgeous Mission San Diego for April and Nick's wedding ceremony. It was a hot day inside but no one seemed to mind as The Mission is just so iconic in San Diego and one of the most beautiful places to have your wedding ceremony, I feel.
Next stop was Green Gables Estate for some post ceremony photos of the bridal party and the happy couple, then the reception to follow. It was my first time shooting at the Green Gables Estate, I have photographed weddings at their sister location, Twin Oaks, and it was in one word - awesome! Great light, lots of lush green foliage and a beautiful mid-century house, complete with one of the best bridal rooms ever.
After some fun photographs, the newly betrothed couple was announced and the party began, and what a great one it was.
I want to thank, April, Nick, the bridal party and all their wonderful friends and family for being so gracious throughout the day, It was an absolute pleasure to photograph this momentous day in their lives. Thanks for checking the blog!
All the best,
